Pre Owned 2009 Fender Custom Shop Custom Deluxe Telecaster HLE Gold With OHSC
Back in the 2009, the Fender Custom Shop debuted a line of guitars called the Custom Deluxe, a premium, limited model merging vintage aesthetics with modern playability. Built in the Fender "Dream Factory," these instruments exemplified how the the Custom Shop was much more than a machine churning out relic guitars. They featured select alder or ash bodies, figured maple necks, Twisted Tele pickups for versatile tones, and contemporary appointments like 9.5" radius fretboard, modern bridges and more.
We were lucky enough to just take one in that appears to have been virtually unplayed since it was made, and is in impeccable condition. Not only that, it was one of the first built, and stayed within Fender since then. It has never been available on the open market - until now.
This Custom Deluxe Telecaster comes with a select alder body, in nitro cellulose lacquer finish. It's an "NOS", meaning New Old Stock - so there's no relic'ing or aging done to it. This one in particular is in HLE Gold, a color rarely seen. It looks fantastic. The flame maple neck has a modified Modern C profile, 9.5" radius, 22 medium jumbo frets and plays like butter. Wen checking out the neck and noticed that it felt thick compared to a normal Modern C. Here are the measurements:
1st Fret Depth: .923"
12th: Fret Depth: .974"
That's about 12% bigger than a regular Modern C (which is .830 - .870"). It's still the same relative taper as you go up the neck, but it is noticeably larger.
The guitar features custom chrome bridge with a flat steel base and 6 saddles for proper intonation, along with deluxe staggered locking tuners. These, along with a additional features, makes the Custom Deluxe a true player's guitar.
You get a great set of pickups with this one. In the neck position, it's a Custom Shop "Twisted" Tele single-coil to bring a bit of Strat sparkle to the tradition Tele sound. It's designed for added brightness and glassiness, while still having the right amount of warmth. Just flip selector switch all the way up and then work the tone knob to really dial it is. In the bridge position, it's Custom Shop Hot NoCaster single-coil. This gives you the classic Tele twang, straight out of the early 50's, with an added hotness to really burn it up when you need it.
This Custom Shop Tele comes with the original hardshell case and certificate of authenticity. As mentioned, it's super clean. Basically, the guitar was built, set aside, not used other than for a handful of demo moments, and is now available. The techs in our shop have set it up to play perfectly. It's ready for it's new home.
