Fender Custom Shop 1958 Jazzmaster Journeyman Relic Surf Green Sparkle Burst With Case

A Most Unique of Jazzmasters

Ever since the Jazzmaster was designed in the late 1950's, players have been drawn to the sound, feel and look of this legendary model.  Over the years, it evolved, but for many, it's all about going back to the original vibe.  And for some, the 1958 edition is "the one".  Why?  This Fender Custom Shop '58 Jazzmaster right here might answer that.  And for those that want something truly unique, the aesthetic of this one may seal the deal.

That finish is called Surf Green Sparkle Burst.  It's bright, it's vibrant, and it's like nothing like anything you've seen, most likely.  We found the inspiration for this color in an article about an old Jazzmaster, and asked the Custom Shop if they could do it.  Not really knowing how it would turn out (after all, this isn't an official color in the Custom Shop's offerings), we were anxiously awaiting this one for quite a while.  When it landed, we took it out of the case and immediately fell speechless.  There's no use in describing it when there are photos to do that job - take a look and you will see.

The two-piece alder body sports the iconic offset curves designed for guitarists who usually played seated, and also wears a Journeyman Relic lacquer finish, giving it the look and feel of a guitar that’s survived over five decades of playing.  To further that idea, and to give it the most "broken in feel" we could get, we asked for the finish on the back of the neck to be removed.  We started doing this on a lot of guitars and fell in love with the combination.  Speaking of the neck, the 59 Esquire C shape is becoming more popular, as it's a similar carve to the 60's Oval C seen on so many Custom Shop guitars, but with a little more "beef" to it.  It's a great shape for this rock solid quartersawn maple neck.  If you're a fan of vintage neck shapes but don't want it too fat, this is a great way to go. Throughout the years, most players have gravitated towards a 9.5" radius and 6105 (narrow tall) frets - so those are the two tweaks that we made on this guitar.  The result is a vintage vibe with modern playability.

Tied together with ultra-flexible, vintage-style Jazzmaster wiring—including the famous “lead/rhythm” circuit, complete with thumbwheel controls—the vintage styled Jazzmaster single-coil pickups sound mellow and fat; the model’s calling card.

Another main feature is that it's equipped with the RSD J-Bridge.  Fender's proprietary take on a new & improved bridge for offset guitars like a Jazzmaster, it's there for better stability, with brass saddles for extra warmth.  This bridge is only available on Custom Shop guitars.  The anodized gold pickguard adds a nice touch and matches the color perfectly.  Other features include vintage-style tuning machines, bone nut and a round string tree. Includes deluxe hardshell case, strap and Certificate of Authenticity.

We spec'ed this one out ourselves, and were super excited when it arrived - the Custom Shop absolutely knocked it out of the park.  We think it's one of the coolest looking Jazzmasters we've ever received from them, and we've had a lot.  Actually, our resident "Offset Specialist" claimed it's his favorite of any Custom Shop guitar he's seen.

You can see and hear why for yourself by coming to Truetone Music, or by ordering right here to be shipped to your home.
