Vintage 1976 Marshall JMP 2204 Master Model Mk II 50-watt Guitar Amp Head

Used And Vintage

If killer Marshall tones is what you're after, here's this 1976 Marshall JMP 2204 Master Model 50w MK II! This is a holy grail amp as this specific year is highly significant as it marks the second year of the "Master Volume" era. This was a revolutionary design that allowed guitarists to achieve searing preamp distortion without having to literally blow out the windows. Pushing 50 watts through a pair of EL34 power tubes, the 2204 is the punchier, slightly more compressed model to the 100-watt 2203, making it arguably the most recorded and sought-after "workhorse" head in Marshall's history.

This "Small Box" (or standard size, depending on the cabinet pairing) head features the classic High and Low sensitivity inputs. The High input activates the extra gain stage that defined the "80s Hair" and "Hard Rock" sound, while the Low input provides a massive, high-headroom clean which takes to pedals like fish to water. Unlike the later JCM800s, many 1976-era JMPs still utilized Drake transformers and high-quality internal components that many players feel offer a "chewier," more harmonic response. The tone is packed with midrange, aggressive, and possesses a bark that cuts through a live drum kit with.

It's got all the classic Marshall aesthetics with the Gold faceplate, black Levant Tolex, and the large white Marshall logo and gold piping. The control layout is dead simple—Presence, Bass, Middle, Treble, Master Volume, and Preamp Volume. Because it is a 50-watt unit, you can push the power section into that glorious "squish" much earlier than a 100-watt head, making it ideal for club gigs and studio sessions.

This '76 JMP is more than an amp; it’s a piece of British engineering that helped define the sound of Angus Young, Randy Rhoads, and countless others. It's been owned by the previous owner for 20 years and has been well-taken care of. It's in great condition and is ready for you!
