Vintage 1966 Fender Precision Bass Refinished With Custom Artwork With Case

Sometimes in life, a double-take is needed. That's case here with this totally unique find - trust us, we had to do several when we first opened the case. This one has an interesting story....
First things first, what you're looking at is a vintage 1966 Fender Precision Bass. Yes, that's correct. In the past 60 years, it's lived quite the life, and appeared pretty much as it is now for the last few decades. The bass started as a very rare Lake Placid Blue with a matching headstock (yes, we wish it stayed that way too - but then it wouldn't have such a unique backstory!). You can see the remnants of the original blue finish on the headstock, surrounding the decal. We also found more blue on the bass when we opened it to inspect. This in itself makes a bit of a rare find.
Now here's where the story really gets going. It was owned by the legendary Terry Messal, bass player in the LA hardcore punk scene that began in the late 1970's. He obtained the bass, refinished it with his own custom artwork, and created something entirely different. While it may seem odd to do such a thing to a vintage bass now, back then it wasn't - and it fit perfectly with the punk ethos.
Messal played the bass on-stage for countless shows with VOMF and Vitamade (Bong Load Records). The bass lived on the road with him, cross-crossing America in a van and causing a lot of heads to turn at every venue. To see this bass in action, check out this VOMF video clip:

When we took the bass in, we verified the authenticity and orginality of the bass, and have now made it available for the first time on the open market. Obviously this isn't for the vintage aficinado that wants a perfectly clean '66 P Bass - it's for those that like the weird and funky, can appreciate good punk humor and something to bang on.
We had to replace the bridge due to rust (the original is included). The tuners may or may not be original but they are period correct. The pickguard isn't on there and there's metal control plate for the knobs and jack that was added on. The pickup was replaced long ago. The case is long gone (it comes with an aftermarket hardshell case).
After going through the bass, our tech set it up, so what we have here is a great playing vintage P bass. We were actually a bit suprised at how good it is! If you're into the unique, or want a vintage P bass to refinish yourself, you've found a great score here.
