Used 2013 Fender American Vintage 1962 Precision Bass Tropical Turquoise Super Rare with OHSC

One of Two Ever Made
Fender has made a lot of basses over the years (that's an understatement), and we've had some great ones here. We've had some rare birds flying through the door. Right now we have the only American Standard Longhorn P Bass ever made. We've had basses owned by Ry Cooder, Glenn Cornick and more. Plus a wide array of Masterbuilt one-off basses.
But this one has a whole different story - it's not short, so get comfortable....
Fender's American Vintage series was originally launched in the early to mid 1980's, with a lineup that included the 1962 Precision Bass. That version lasted until 1990, eventually coming back in 2000, before being discontinued in 2012. The '62 P Bass was a "go to" for players that wanted a vintage reissue with a lacquer finish and all of the period correct specs. Typically, you see them in 3-Tone Sunburst, Black and other classic Fender colors such Olympic White, Fiesta Red and a few more.
At the end of the run in 2012, there were a few leftover bodies and necks that were set aside. In 2013, the last two were pulled and finished for Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Instead of the normal colors, Fender's Artist Relations had them painted in Tropical Turquoise for him. When they presented him with both, Flea loved it but insisted on only taking one. The other was hung as a showpiece at the Fender Visitors Center in Corona.
At the end of 2013, the Fender District Sales Manager was on his way to Phoenix for the holidays, and stopped at the Visitors Center. He spotted it...and being a bass player that was well-versed in the product line, he knew that an American Vintage '62 Precision Bass in Tropical Turquoise was something that never existed. After being told the full scoop, his interest piqued. Being a fan of Flea, the opportunity to own the only other one was too much to pass up. He immediately got authorization to buy the bass and took it on the spot.
5 years later, he left Fender to become the owner of Truetone Music. 8 years after that, he's decided to consolidate his collection, and now, for the first time, this bass is available.
Of course, beyond all of that, it's simply a great playing, amazing sounding classic P Bass. You get the classic alder body, maple neck with a slim 60's profile, slab rosewood fretboard, and the iconic split coil pickup that brings the sound heard around the world. It's the classic tone: warm & punchy, bringing powerful low end, clear mids and highs that can sizzle when needed. It's wide and percussive, and can go "flat" when needed by rolling the tone control down. Whether you're playing rock or motown, punk or jazz, this is a bass that can do it all.
Since this bass was made, it's been in the Fender Visitors Center and the Fender District Sales Manager/owner of Truetone's home. So, it's in excellenct, primo condition. The original hardshell case is included. Setup to play perfectly by the techs in our shop, it's ready for its next home.
An American Vintage 1962 Precision Bass in Tropical Turquoise is something you've never seen and won't again. This is a rare find - it's one of only two that were ever made. With the other going to Flea, the opportunity to own the other is now available, only here at Truetone Music.
