Vintage Gibson J-160E Sunburst Acoustic Electric Guitar With OHSC

Used And Vintage

The Gibson J-160E is a legendary guitar - and here we have one from the early 60's, which is the most desirable out there.  Of course, it's most closely associated with The Beatles, who used the model extensively and on many of the recordings from the first half of their career.  Actually, the J-160E has been claimed to be the only guitar to grace every Beatles album.  And, it's what you see being playing during first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show.  From that moment on, the J-160E has been an undeniable part of guitar culture.

here we have a super nice one from 1961.  Considering that the Beatles got there's in 1962, this is as close as it gets to "just the way it was".  Everything on this one is original, other than a single tuner button that was replaced.  Additionally, the original hardshell case is included - usually you won't see that.

First introduced in 1954 as one of the first acoustic-electric guitars, it helped put Gibson on the map.  It was the second Gibson acoustic model to feature onboard electronics (after the CF-100E, which was released in 1951).  This game-changing model took players to the stage, thanks to a coverless P-90 pickup mounted through the top, just below the end of the fretboard. While it has a round shoulder shape similar to the Southern Jumbo and J-45, the J-160E was designed from the beginning as a dual-purpose model that could function both electrically and acoustically, with somewhat more emphasis placed on its electrical performance.  You get dual congrols, so you can really dial it in.

The J-160E mahogany back & sides, and a laminiate top.  An interesting feature is that the guitar is ladder-braced, as opposed to the X-braced like other Gibson acoustics.  The mahogany neck, which is super comfortable to play.  It features a nice rosewood fretboard with trapezoid inlays.  Also, it has an adjustable bridge, another unique twist.....the J-160E is one of the first to have it.

The condition of this vintage J-160E is very good, especially considering that it's been working its way aroudn the world for 65 years.  It may be a senior citizen but it's still looking good and playing even better.  The head luthier/vintage expert has vetted the guitar and given it a full setup.  Of course, the guitar plays great note, with no dead notes   If you're looking to collect a historic Gibson acoustic, or just want an amazing player piece, you've found it.
