Pre-Owned 2006 Giffin Standard Hollowbody Redwood Burl Top with OHSC
Esteemed luthier Roger Giffiin starting building guitars in England in the 1960's and in the decades since, has built a reputation for impeccable craftsmanship, the highest standards, the choicest tonewoods, and his own unique flavor. Over the years, he has built guitars for David Gilmour, Mark Knopfler and Pete Townshend, amongst many other big names. After relocating to the U.S. in the 1980's, and then a stint at Gibson, he revived the Giffin Guitars brands in the 2000's. He has continued to build a small amount of instruments each year in his Portland, Oregon workshop.
We were excited to see this excellent example of his work walk in the door recently. We've only had one or two other Giffin Guitars here in the past. This one in particular, the Standard Hollow Body, is especially impressive. The Redwood Burl top is stunning, perfectly accented by the abalone inlays, tastely done binding and gold hardware. It's not just about the aesthetic though - this guitar plays and sound amazing. neck has a very comfortable profile, and the PAF style humbuckers work for a variety of styles. This is a top notch guitar.
The Hollow-body Standard adds a different dimension to the Giffin Standard. Because of the unique internal structure which allows the bridge to mount on a solid block which is part of the body wood, these guitars have the open airy sound of a pure hollow-body while still retaining the power and sustain of a solid-body. They are available with or without F-holes which according to Roger Giffin, is a purely visual preference as there is no discernable difference sound-wise between these guitars whether they have F-holes or not.
The guitar was vetted and setup to play perfectly by the techs in our repair shop. It comes with the original hardshell case and Certificate of Authenticity, signed by Roger Giffin. In the world of boutique guitars, Roger Giffin's name holds a special place, and this is a very special guitar.
