Pre-Owned 2025 Fender Custom Shop 1960 Stratocaster Journeyman Relic Faded Aged Surf Green With OHSC

We just took in a killer Custom Shop Strat, representing some of Fender's finest work from the "golden era" with nice tweaks. It's a guitar that we spec'ed out with one of our favorite customers, to create a modified version of a different Strat we had here. He's a local player/collector that keeps all of his gear in pristine shape. After moving on towards some other Strats in his collection, this one is available on the market for the first time now.
The early 1960s saw some important changes to the Stratocaster, including a new pickguard configuration, neck profile and rosewood fingerboard, all culminating in a compelling new contemporary look and sound. As music evolved during this era, so did Leo Fender's finest creation. The Strat has continued to change over the years, but for many, stepping back to how it was done in the '60's is the way to go.
The Custom Shop 1960 Stratocaster Journeyman Relic is a fine testament to these innovations, featuring a two-piece select alder body that is very lightweight for excellent comfort, and a roasted maple neck with a modified 60 Style Oval “C” profile. This is the Custom Shop's most popular neck shape, and we opted to go for a slightly thicker version - this gives you more a vintage feel and more to grip. It has a 9.5”-radius rosewood fingerboard with 21 Jumbo frets for steady play up and down the neck. While the guitar is a Journeyman Relic (representing the look and feel of a guitar has been played extensively but abused), we had the neck given a Heavy Relic treatment, to maximize the "broken in" feel that players love. We do this on a lot of guitars and have found that not only do we love it, but so does nearly everyone that picks one up.
At the heart of the beast are the all-new handwound Ancho Poblano pickups specially designed to deliver spicy expressive tones that get progressively hotter from neck to bridge. The middle and neck pickups are uniquely calibrated from string to string for enhanced solo work, while the flat-pole bridge pickup delivers a powerful toneful punch. Each pickup is individually hand wound and potted with secret “Custom Shop sauce” to curb microphonics while preserving an open yet focused tone. By moving the selector switch, players can unlock throaty Ancho Poblano tone while taking their output from warm (in the neck position) to scorching hot (in the bridge position). Unlike the neck and middle pickups, which feature custom staggered alnico 3 pole pieces, the bridge pickup also sports flush-mount alnico 5 pole pieces for plenty of quack in the second position.

We also went with the Vintage Modified # 2 wiring setup. This features a master volume, tone # 1 (neck & middle pickups), and tone # 2 (bridge) with treble bleed (for keeping mids and rolling off highs without adding bass). This guitar sounds downright amazing.
The chosen color for this one was Faded Aged Surf Green - this "tames down" the brightness of the green, and recreates the look of a guitar whose finish has been fading slowly and aging over the decades. The result is sublime.
Other features include a Custom Shop vintage-style synchronized tremolo, vintage-style tuning machines, bone nut and clay dots for an authentic vintage vibe. Also includes a deluxe hardshell case, strap and certificate of authenticity.
