Pre Owned 2022 Taylor CrossTone Prototype Auburn Flame With OHSC

We have yet another special guitar that you haven't seen before: a prototype Taylor Crosstone. It's a precursor to what eventually became a whole new brand within itself, Powers Electric. What you're looking at is a rare bird, as it's the only one out there like it.
In 2022, Andy Powers and the design team at Taylor embarked on a project to create an electric-centric hollowbody guitar. Just 50 Prototype models were crafted using existing and experimental new components. The Taylor Crosstone was designed as a new hollowbody electric guitar that revealed a fresh spectrum of sounds, enabling players to create unique sonic flavors. The guitar was intended to offer a rich new dimension of amplified tone for players to explore. However, it was never released to the public.

In 2025, the prototypes were released to dealers, and we got one - which then sold immediately. Now we are finding ourselves lucky enough to have another, and it's spectacular.
There are other Crosstones on the market, but one of most distinctive features of this particular model are the dual single coil FF42 (Full Faraday) pickups. Others have a single pickup - this is the only one with two pickups. The FF42 pickups made their way to the Powers Electric A-Type model, which has become a new hit in the guitar market. They are known for warmth and clarity, and low noise performance. Plugged in, this guitar simply sounds amazing. It's quite versatile - as expected, it's great for clean playing, but also dirties up nicely and can be used for a variety of styles.
Also specific to this guitar is the super-figured Auburn Flame maple top, custom ebony knobs controlling the volume and tone, with a three-way switch to select different pickup sounds. The chambered body, made from Urban Ash with a Big Leaf Maple top, keeps the guitar lightweight while enhancing sustain and resonance, giving it a unique blend of electric precision. Inside, custom Sitka spruce bracing enhances the guitar’s acoustic capabilities, offering a broader dynamic range, stronger projection, and a more expressive feel.
The unfinished Neo-Tropical Mahogany neck features the familiar T5-style carve, while the 24 7/8" scale length strikes a balance that’s comfortable for players used to either electric or acoustic instruments. Player comfort continues with a 12" radius Crelicam Ebony fingerboard, 21 jumbo frets, and a 1 11/16" TUSQ nut. A Micarta saddle and Crelicam Ebony bridge deliver reliable intonation and excellent tonal transfer, while Taylor tuners provide stable and accurate tuning. From top to bottom, the Crosstone is a thoughtfully crafted instrument that blends innovative design with high-level playability.
The Taylor Crosstone is a rare and noteworthy prototype that represents a key moment in the development of hybrid electric-acoustic guitars, designed by Andy Powers—Master Builder and CEO of Taylor Guitars. Conceived as a variation of the Taylor T5z, the Crosstone incorporates early design cues that would go on to shape the Powers Electric A-Type and the updated T5z models released in 2023. After a year of road testing by artists from both Taylor and Powers Electric, this is a historic instrument as a significant piece of the Powers Electric story.
Only 50 were made, and just 1 exactly like this, never to be produced again. The ultimate collector’s pieces for any guitar or Taylor enthusiast. Don't miss your chance to own a piece of Taylor History. It's not just that - this is an incredible sounding, feeling and looking guitar. This one is in excellent condition. The techs in our shop have set it up to play perfectly, and it's ready for its next home.
