Pre Owned 2020 Fender Custom Shop Heavy Relic 1963 Telecaster Butterscotch Blonde With OHSC

Ever since the Telecaster debuted in the early 1950's, it has seen many evolutions, modifications, alterations and colors. By the 1960's, some important changes were seen, mainly in the addition of a rosewood fretboard. Not only that, but a new neck shape, bridge design, pickups, and color options, gave the Telecaster a decidedly different feel, sound and look. For many players, the early 60's Teles are the only way to go.
But for some, they still want the feel and sound of maple. Plus, there's little that's as iconic as a Butterscotch Blonde Tele. And some players want a flatter radius for easier bending. For those that want all that, we have the perfect Tele. We just took in this Fender Custom Shop 1963 Telecaster that brings all of that to the table, plus much more.
It features a lightweight roasted alder body, a stunning roasted AAA flame maple neck and the Custom Shop's Heavy Relic treatment. The guitar has a thinskin lacquer finish, aged to perfection, and certain to gain even more wear as you play it. You get all of the vibe and comfort of a guitar that has seen plenty of action over the decades. While this Tele looks very 50's, the feel is all 60's. First things first, you get a slab maple fretboard instead of rosewood. It features an 11" radius to make bending a breeze, with vintage frets to retain some of the old school feel. Also, the guitar has a 60's style Oval "C" neck shape (.790 - .930"), much slimmer than your typical Butterscotch Blonde 50's Tele.
It's not all about the looks and feel though - this guitar sounds downright amazing. You get a Fender Custom Shop Handwound '51 Loaded Nocaster pickup in the bridge position, which provides vintage inspired tone with extra burn, thanks to the Alnico 3 magnets and extra winds of the # 43 gauge enamel wire. The result is a juicy tone, perfect for driving a preamp into gritty overdrive, but also well-suited for super smooth, crystal clear clean tones. The twang is ever-present and right at your fingertips. In the neck position, it's a Handwound '51 Nocaster single coil. You get enamel-coated magnet wire for warm vintage tone, flush-mount magnets for even string response, and Alnico 3 magnets for more focus and enhanced dynamics. From clean to dirty, this pickup does it all, with classic Tele tone.
This Tele also features the "Fat ‘50s Tele" wiring setup. This is achieved by connecting the tone pot to the output of the volume pot (middle lug) instead of the input. Many late fifties guitars of all brands were wired this way, but it can be done with any guitar. This will have two major effects on the tone:
First, the overall tone gets stronger with more transparent bloom. Second, the typical treble loss that occurs when rolling back the volume is much less, and both the volume and tone controls react more smoothly and more evenly, without the typical hot spots. As a side effect, it’s easier to clean up an overdriven amp by simply rolling back the volume on the guitar a bit. Many of the Fender Master Builders prefer this hook up.
When it comes to hardware, this guitar has some nice features. It has vintage staggered tuners for improved tuning stability (and removing the need for a string tree). Additionally, it has the 58 -63 Tele bridge with RSD saddles. These are brass, for the classic tone, but also are compensated so you get improved intonation.
Built in 2020, this Custom Shop '63 Tele represents something unique: a 50's aesthetic and sound, with a 60's feel, and modern playability. All around, it's a great package - especially when you look at that flame maple neck. The guitar comes with the original hardshell case, as well as the Certificate of Authenticity. Set up to play by the techs in our shop, it's ready to roll.
