Vintage 1936/39 Gibson ES-150 Sunburst With Soft Case

Used And Vintage Electric Guitars

Up for sale is a bonafide electric guitar icon, this pre-war Gibson ES-150.  This is the same model made famous by guitar great Charlie Christian.   First introduced in 1936, it is generally recognized as the world's first commercially successful Spanish-style electric guitar. The ES stands for Electric Spanish, and Gibson designated it "150" because they priced it (in an instrument/amplifier/cable bundle) at around $150.

Here we have a great example of one from the earliest days; we believe it was built in the late 1930's.  It's in great shape especially considering its age, and does have a sticker on the back - we considered removing it but felt that it would damage the finish.  Plus, it adds some unique character to the guitar.  Overall, this vintage piece is rather clean, and finish has aged to a fine patina over the years.  View photos to see everything.

The tone is warm, round and exounds vintage jazz vibes with every note.  The "Charlie Christian pickup", as the bar-style pickup in this guitar came to be known, produces a clear sound and strong signal, with a low amount of hum.  It's instantly recongizable and has influenced a world of pickups in the years since.  It balances warmth with a transparent treble, and somehow is both hot and mellow at the same time.

There's a good reason guitarists have gone for vintage ES-150's over the years, and it can be heard on this guitar.  According the research, only about 1,000 were made prior to 1940, so these original ones are hard to find, especially in this good of shape.
