Truetone Music was invited to Nazareth, PA for a very special visit. We had the chance to spec out guitars to be custom built by the Martin Custom Shop. We were also thrilled by the prospect of being able to hand select our own wood at the factory, aided by Custom Shop representatives and tonewood experts. That began a relationship that has continued for multiple custom runs over a number of years.
We knew we wanted to represent an interesting variety as far as models and exotic woods, but we also wanted the guitars to sound as best they could, never sacrificing tone for bling.
This Martin Custom Shop version of a 000-18E is a true example of that theory coming together in the best possible way. It's safe to say that it's likely that you've never seen a a guitar exactly like this one. The materials, construction and appointments make it worth every penny, and a set of features on this particular guitar make it all the more special.
Cherry is not one of the more common wood choices for acoustic guitars, and we're wondering why. The clarity provided by this wood is a great for the precise attack of a 000 guitar and also warm enough to soothe - making this one perfect for strumming as well as fingerpicking. It's a "best of both worlds" scenario. It's well balanced, with a clean, crisp tone, plenty of sustain and a distinct bass. The Sitka Spruce top resonates and sings sweetly, providing excellent note definition.
One of the things you'll notice is that it has a cutaway for easy access all the way of the fretboard. This is not seen very often when it comes Martin Custom Shop guitars. Additionaly, this is an acoustic-electric guitar - it's loaded with a Fishman Matrix VT Enhance pickup/preamp system for live performance. This system is equipped with the Enhance transducer that delivers a new level of sound quality and playing dynamics. When combined with the Acoustic Matrix undersaddle pickup, Enhance can be used to strengthen the dynamic and percussive elements of your playing
We chose to keep the rest of the specs simple, as the focus is on how the guitar sounds and feels. The neck is Martin’s popular modified low oval with high performance taper, making it very comfortable to play for hours. The radius is 16” with a nut width of 1 3/4”. The guitar is finished in gloss with a satin finished neck. It comes with a Martin hard shell case and certificate of authenticity.
