Used Fender Custom Shop Vintage Custom '57 Precision Bass With OHSC

Used And Vintage

Here we have a true recreation of a classic: a Fender Custom Shop Vintage Custom 1957 Precision Bass. It's a beautiful one too, and a great player for anyone that appreciates old school basses.

In the bass guitar world, the Fender Precision Bass stands alone as not only the first electric bass, but also as the most popular electric bass in the world. Perhaps the most recorded bass ever, the Precision is prized as an always-dependable workhorse with one-of-a-kind tone, look and feel. 1957 was a landmark year for this bass, with a design transition to sleeker body contours, a new split-coil double-rectangular pickup, an anodized gold pickguard and a wider headstock.

The Vintage Custom '57 Precision Bass exemplifies the flagship design that has carried the torch for the electric bass for so many years on stages and on the greatest recordings of all time.  It's done in the Time Capsule package, where the finish is a Flash Coat Nitrocellulose Lacquer and the hardware is faded slightly (Closet Classic).  The Custom Shop has nailed this process, to create the look of a vintage instrument that was never played - it's like it came out of the factory yesterday, if yesterday was nearly 70 years ago.  Hence the "Time Capsule" moniker.  It's a very thin finish, allowing the bass to breathe and remain as expressive as it gets.  This one is in Wide Fade 2-Tone Sunburst, perfectly nailing the mid to late 50's style of sunburst that Fender did.

The body is constructed of two-piece hand-selected alder and is very resonant.  The one-piece quartersawn maple neck has a '57 "soft V" profile, 7.25"-radius fingerboard and 20 medium vintage (47095) frets.  If you dig the thicker profile of 50's P bass necks, this is going to be perfect for you.

A Custom Shop Handwound '57 P Bass pickup provides classic P Bass tone, known as "the sound heard around the world".  It's versatile, and can be used in a variety of settings, from old school R&B to punk and everything in between.

Other features include a vintage-accurate single-ply gold anodized pickguard, four-saddle vintage-style bass bridge, vintage-style tuning machines, bone nut and a disc string tree. The bass comes with the bridge and pickup covers installed, which of course can be removed.  Includes the original deluxe tweed hardshell case and certificate of authenticity.

The bass is in excellent condition - the previous owner barely played it, as it's one of nearly a dozen basses he owns, and he favors skinny neck Jazz basses.  So, it was kept super clean in his home studio and never gigged with it.  This bass is as clean as any new bass we have.  It came to us with flatwound strings (that's how the Custom Shop does this model to begin with).  The techs in our shop have set it up to play perfectly - the action is super low, but without buzzing.  For anyone that wants a classic P bass made by the best, this is it.
