Fender Custom Shop Vintage Custom 1959 Stratocaster Time Capsule Faded Aged Sonic Blue With Case

We love it when the Fender Custom Shop delves deep into the early years to introduce a unique, transition-era model.  In this case, it's the 1959 Stratocaster.  Everyone knows how classic (and in many ways perfect) the original Stratocasters are, and while Leo Fender nailed it, he didn't stop tinkering, even right off the bat.  The guitar only got "better" as he was always striving to improve upon the design.  Many important changes came about 5 years later.  For that reason, many Fender fans and vintage aficionados gravitate to the '59 Strat.

Here we have a great example of what Fender can do today - we present this Vintage Custom 1959 Stratocaster Time Capsule, in the super cool color of Faded Aged Sonic Blue.

1959 was a pivotal year in the annals of Stratocaster history. It was the first year that modern features, such as rosewood fingerboards and new finishes made their initial appearance. The Vintage Custom 1959 Stratocaster brings that to the table. The flash-coat lacquer finish lets the guitar breathe more freely and organically for singing sustain and warm tone.  It's done in the Time Capsule package, so it's like it came out of the factory yesterday, if yesterday was 65 years ago.  Hence the "Time Capsule" moniker.  The hardware was given the Closet Classic treatment, to remove some of the shine but without any relic work.

We chose the 59 Esquire C neck shape due to its comfortable grip - while it has a vintage feel, it's not too thick.  Some call it the perfect "in between" neck.  It features a vintage 7.25"-9.5" compound radius, which Fender found on some rare examples, giving it a unique feel even among vintage-inspired models. So, you get the old school feel for chords but the modern playability as you go higher up the neck.  It also features medium vintage frets, which are slightly larger than regular vintage and very comfortable to play.

This guitar has several key features that debuted in 1959, including a dark slab rosewood fingerboard with clay position dots, a three-ply mint green pickguard, and a metal spacer added to the string tree.

Handwound 1959 Strat pickups are wired to a vintage '59 control assembly and five-way switch. Normally, handwound pickups are a significant upcharge, but they are thrown in on this one.  Built to evoke the original era of the Fender Stratocaster, these single-coil '59 Strat pickups produce a round, warm tone with a sweet edge.  These pickups are wax-potted, and feature period-correct cloth wire and fiber bobbin construction.  Formvar-coated magnet wire improves overall brightness, Alnico 5 magnets add more focus and enhanced dynamics, and staggered pole pieces balance volume and output across every string.

Other features include period correct hardware, a bone nut, and white pickup covers and knobs to retain the vintage vibe.  Includes deluxe hardshell case, strap and certificate of authenticity.
