Fender Custom Shop 1963 Stratocaster Mahogany Body Relic Crimson Red Transparent

The Fender Custom Shop is known for crafting some of the finest electric guitars out there, whether it's a true vintage creation, an entirely new concept, or something in between. We feel that some of the coolest are the guitars that have a vintage vibe, with a twist. Here we have a beautiful Fender Custom Shop '63 Relic Stratocaster with the rare feature of having a mahogany body, in the beautiful color of Crimson Red Transparent to show the wood grain nicely.

Mahogany is a wood that you don't see very often on Strats - Fender rarely does it - which is exactly why we spec'ed out this guitar like this. While most Strats are alder or ash, we had the Custom Shop pick out a piece of Fiji Mahaogany for the body. This gives this particular Strat a different tonal quality - bass heavy with punchy highs and a focused mid-range. It helps with increased sustain. This is great for a lot of styles of music, but not if you're looking for an really bright or snappy Strat sound. However, if you're looking for a darker and warm tone, this is the right guitar for you.

The quartersawn maple neck is super comfortable with the 60's Oval "C" carve (the most popular for Custom Shop Strat), 6105 frets and a 9.5" radius for easy playability on a AAA rosewood fretboard. We've had a lot of Custom Shop Strats here, and this is amongst the best playing that we've had.

For the pickups, we kept it real, going with the base model Custom Shop '60's Strat pickup set. These recreate the sound of a classic mid-60's Strat, using Alnico 5 magnets and a vintage stagger, with strong output and a nice, even response across the tonal spectrum. You get glistening, glass-like highs, and warm, punchy lows. It's the classic sound, known and loved for decades.

Though a relic'd guitar finish is almost as common these days as a flawless factory finish, it the was Fender Custom Shop that pioneered the process and know it better than anyone. You get a look and feel that's used but not abused. Totally broken in, but holds up like a brand new electric guitar.
