The Carr Artemus is Steve Carr’s brilliant, "hot-rodded" reimagining of the classic British AC-style circuit. While many boutique builders aim for a direct Vox clone, the Artemus takes that legendary EL84 chime and gives it a dose of American muscle with modern flexibility. Pushing roughly 15 to 30 watts through a quad of EL84 power tubes, this amp delivers everything from "glassy" 1960s jangle to a thick, harmonically rich "brown" overdrive that stays tight and focused even at high gain.
This is a great find - it was built in 2009, lived its entire life in a recording studio, has had no repairs or mods, and is in excellent condition.
As with all Carr amplifiers, the construction is world-class. It features point-to-point hand-wiring, a solid pine cabinet for superior resonance, and premium components throughout. It is loaded with a pair of 12" Eminence Red, White, and Blues. These speakers bring an American flavor to the British circuit, offering a large, punchy low-end, smooth mids, and a very clean, sparkling high-end. In a 2x12" configuration, these speakers provide incredible headroom and a "hi-fi" clarity that prevents the EL84s from becoming too "boxy."
