Gibson Custom Shop's 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue is not just a tribute to the priceless original models - it's a clone of them. From laser-scanned dimensions to chemically-recreated plastics to color-matched shades of sunburst, every element has been rendered in unbelievable detail. It represents the culmination of decades of work by Custom Shop's expert team -- a tireless quest to bring accuracy and authenticity to the hands of fans. It’s the definition of cool, and it's the best representation of the 1959 Les Paul Standard since the Gibson Custom Shop began making Historic Reissues years ago.
This Les Paul It features Ultra Light Aging by the skilled artisans of the Murphy Lab. The photos show it well, but it's even better in person. Like a prized possession that has spent most of its long life stored carefully in its case. Murphy Lab artisans apply the most subtle touches, such as minimal lacquer checking, Murphy Lab Light Aged hardware, and hand-rolled fretboard binding. This simulates decades of light play wear, giving it the unique character, vibe, and feel of an original example from the Gibson Golden Era.
Gibson put as much into the electronics as they did to its aesthetics. You get CTS 500K audio taper potentiometers and paper-in-oil capacitors, so the internal signal path gives you dead-on 1961 ES-335 tone. This guitar sports a pair of unpotted Custombucker humbuckers with Alnico III magnets, These are some of the most historically accurate PAF replications ever. We were blown away when we plugged this guitar in.
Of course the primary concern is how the guitar feels and plays - and this '59 Les Paul is pure butter. It has an authentic '59 C profile, which will sit in your hand comfortably. It has a vintage grip but isn't too thick. We call it "just right". The bound Indian rosewood fretboard is super smooth with perfectly dress frets, leading to a truly pleasurable playing experience.
Addition period correct features include single-line/single-ring tuners, cellolose nitrate trapezoid inlays and an ABR-1 adjustable bridge with a lightweight aluminum stopbar.
Every detail has been given meticulous attention and recreated, resulting in the look, feel and sound of a vintage 1959 Les Paul.
